Joyce was an Irish novelist, short-story
writer, and poet, he is regarded as some of the most influential
writers of the 20th century, he is best remembered for Ulysses
published in 1922 generally regarded as his finest work.
He was born in Dublin on February 2, 1882.
And educated at Jesuit schools, where he won several prizes in
national competitions and gained a solid knowledge of languages,
religious and scholastic teachings.

He moved to University College, Dublin, it was
at this time Joyce rejected Catholicism and appeared to lose his enthusiasm
for formal education. He completed a degree in modern languages, and went
to Paris to study medicine, returning soon afterwards when he learned
his mother was dying.
Joyce remained in Dublin and wrote book reviews
for the Dublin Daily Express, he met and fell in love with Nora Barnacle,
this day was later immortalized as 'Bloomsday' the day on which his masterpiece
Ulysses (1922) takes place. Joyce and Nora left Ireland and lived in Switzerland,
Italy and France.
